Peshtigo Veterinary Clinic is seeking a highly motivated veterinary technician to join our team. We are a state-of-the-art clinic providing medical, surgical, and dental services for dogs, cats and the occasional exotic patient.

As a veterinary technician your role is integral in supporting both doctors and patients. Veterinary technicians must be able to multitask; working quickly and efficiently within the hospital setting. The ability to stay calm and respond quickly in an emergency is imperative. Effective communication with clients and team members as well as compassionate care is highly valued.


Responsibilities include:

  • Assist veterinarians in providing high quality medical care

  • Safe and effective animal handling during examinations and procedures

  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments including SQ, IM and IV injections as directed by the veterinarian

  • Perform routine laboratory procedures including running bloodwork, reading blood smears, urinalysis, fecal analysis and skin scrapings

  • Place and maintain IV catheters

  • Prepare animals for surgery and assist during surgical procedures, including dental procedures

  • Demonstrate knowledge of usage, dosage, and common side-effects for commonly used prescription drugs and ability to readily explain them to the clients

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the common anesthesia and recovery states. Alert veterinarians when concerns arise with hospitalized patients

  • Properly extubate, monitor temperature and recover a patient from anesthesia

  • Demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations and the ability to handle fast-paced working environment

  • Demonstrate ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis and continuing to provide compassionate care to animals in distress

  • Maintain lab and surgical equipment including autoclaved items, surgery packs, anesthesia machines, centrifuge, and microscope according to hospital protocol

  • Clean surgery suite, treatment area, laboratory, kennel, and exam rooms daily

  • Assist receptionists or other staff as needed

Qualifications:

  • Current State of Wisconsin licensure as a Certified/Registered/Licensed Veterinary Technician

  • Must be a self-starter, able to multitask and a team player.

  • Genuinely enjoy working with animals and being able to compassionately care for them when stressed, ill, or in discomfort.

  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position. Work requires lifting, carrying, and squatting.  Able to walk or stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 50# without assistance.
